GREENVILLE, S.C.—  Today, Dr. Jo Jorgensen, the 2020 Libertarian nominee for president, issued the following open letter to U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D–Hawaii).

September 15, 2020

The Honorable Rep. Tulsi Gabbard
1433 Longworth House Office Building
Washington, DC  20515

Dear Rep. Gabbard,

To millions of Americans who desperately want an end to America’s wars in the Middle East and Afghanistan, you are a hero for daring to speak out for peace.

As the Libertarian candidate for president, I agree with you that we urgently need to bring our troops home. These never-ending wars have cost us dearly in American lives, casualties, and dollars, and yet have done nothing to make our country safer.

I thank you, Tulsi Gabbard, for standing up to establishment politicians and saying what none of them will say: Our country’s presence in the Middle East and Afghanistan is not working, has no end plan, and will not succeed. It’s time to get out.

Your willingness to make your case, take a lot of heat, and come out shining inspires me. Much like Ron Paul in 2007, when he stood up to Rudy Giuliani in a presidential primary debate, you stood before the American people and spoke truth to power.

You struck a chord with Americans—and the world—and created a moment that will go down in history as one that brought us closer to peace.

As a fellow advocate for nonintervention, I thank you for making my job easier. We must help each other in this area where our differing politics align to bring an end to war.

Most of all, I thank you for the lives that will be saved or spared hardship because of your brave actions. There is no greater mark to leave on this earth.

Respectfully yours,
