GREENVILLE, S.C.; Sept. 4, 2020— Libertarian presidential candidate Dr. Jo Jorgensen today rejected President Trump’s recent claim to be “somewhat libertarian.”

“I’ve been a libertarian my entire adult life,” said Jorgensen. “I’ve discussed public policy with thousands of libertarians. Mr. President—you’re no libertarian!”

Earlier this week on Laura Ingraham’s show on Fox News Channel, Trump said, “I’m somewhat libertarian…I have to be honest with you…Rand Paul will tell you that. I had a Libertarian candidate on last time that got, what, four and a half or so percent…those are all Republican voters. They’re wasting their vote. Because they have to vote for us. If there wasn’t a Libertarian on the ticket, I would win the popular vote. I would have won it last time.”

“What utter nonsense,” said Jorgensen. “The vast majority of Libertarian voters are independents who have rejected both the Democrats and Republicans. Claims that we predominantly draw from one party or the other are demonstrably false. This is one of the tactics that both parties use to try to suppress any candidate that truly challenges the status quo.

“The fact is: neither Trump nor Biden advocates libertarian views on any of the major issues facing our country.

“Libertarians oppose involvement in foreign wars and would bring our troops home. Under President Trump or President Biden, the endless wars will continue.

“Libertarians would dramatically cut federal spending and put an end to deficit spending. Both Trump and Biden promise a never-ending sea of red ink and bankruptcy for our nation.

“Libertarians would stop putting people in jail for personal choices that are peaceful, honest, and voluntary. Biden was the author of the 1994 crime bill that led to minorities disproportionately being sent to prison for drug use, and Trump wants to impose even more draconian penalties.

“If elected, Libertarians pledge to take money and power away from politicians and return it to individuals. Real change for real people. I’m asking voters in all 50 states plus D.C. to demand real change by rejecting both Trump and Biden, and by voting for me on November 3.”
