Dr. Jo Jorgensen Nomination Acceptance Speech to Libertarian Party

ORLANDO, Fla.— From July 9 to 12, the Libertarian Party (LP) will hold its presidential nominating convention, part two, at the Orange County Convention Center.

Originally, the convention was planned for Austin, Texas over Memorial Day weekend, but because of concerns over viral infections and governmental restrictions on travel, the LP adjusted and held the country’s first-ever on-line presidential nomination. Delegates nominated Dr. Jo Jorgensen as the 2020 Libertarian presidential candidate and Jeremy “Spike” Cohen as her vice-presidential running mate.

“I’m honored to have been selected to represent the Libertarian Party on the ballot in all 50 states this November,” said Jorgensen. “I look forward to delivering my acceptance speech to the delegates in person in Florida.”

Convention delegates will also celebrate their first formally affiliated Congressman, Justin Amash of Michigan, who left the Republican Party in 2019 to go independent, and made history in April 2020 when he switched his voter registration to Libertarian.

Altamonte Springs City Commissioner Jim Turney is co-organizer of the convention. “Our event will be among the first to take advantage of the newly re-opened central Florida convention business,” Turney said. “We will have distancing and protection precautions in place. Face masks will be provided to all delegates and attendees; each delegate will have their own separate six-foot table on the convention floor; and plenty of hand-sanitizer stations will be placed throughout the convention center.”

Turney expects more than 900 people to attend the convention, including several hundred delegates attending remotely via audio or video access. “The business proceedings will be live-streamed on the LP’s YouTube channel,” he said, “with the highlight of the convention being Dr. Jorgensen’s acceptance speech, planned for Friday, July 10 from 11:15 A.M. to 12 noon.” Full program online at LNC2020.com.
